Global Read Aloud - Global Friends

Harvest Time at Immaculate Conception School

10/07/2016 - Students in Mrs. Lotter's Grade 2/3 Class used vegetables harvested from the school garden to make a hearty vegetable soup to share with friends in Mrs. Hayden's Grade 1/2 class. 1st Cancer Society Relay For Life at Immaculate Conception raises $9231.48

05/13/2016 - On May 6th, Immaculate Conception, staff, students and parents participated in their very 1st Relay for Life. Their fundraising goal was to match the $1293.00 donation made by a grade 2 student, Julia Hayden when she cut her hair, at their kick off, to help make wigs for Cancer patients. Bellmore New Chair of the Board at SCDSB

12/02/2015 - On Tuesday, December 1, 2015 Trustee Michael Bellmore was acclaimed as the new Board Chair for the Sudbury Catholic District School Board. Born in Sudbury, Bellmore is a proud alumnus of Sudbury Catholic Schools (Immaculate Conception and St. Charles College). He was elected to the Board of Trustees in 2010, however he was elected to the former Sudbury District Roman Catholic Separate School Board in 1994 as one of the youngest ever elected, and served until 1997. Read more...

Immaculate Conception "Green Squad" Enjoying the Fruits of their Labour

10/21/2015 - Teacher Sara Lotter's Grade 3 Class at Immaculate Conception is proud to be the 2015-16 Green Squad. The students began in September by harvesting the vegetables in the garden. Some of the beautifully ripened tomatoes were used to make salsa. The salsa was made and enjoyed by Mrs. Hayden and Mrs. Lotter's classes. The Green Squad has prepared the vegetable beds for winter and they look forward to planting in the Spring. Read more...

Central bargaining is continuing between the province, unions and the Ontario Catholic School Trustees Association (OCSTA), which represents Catholic school boards at the provincial table. Digging in the Dirt at Immaculate Conception

09/12/2014 - On September 11, despite the day’s cold temperature, the rain held off for the students and staff from Immaculate Conception Catholic Elementary, and they were able to get their new plants, trees and shrubs in the ground thanks to VETAC, Greater Sudbury’s Regreening Advisory Panel. As winners of this year’s “Ugliest School Yard Contest, the school received a cash donation form Sudbury Integrated Nickel Operations as well as supplies from several local businesses, and expert advice to help transform their schoolyard into a greener space for the students. Read more...


SCDSB Award Winning Authors

06/19/2014 - Three students from the Sudbury Catholic District School Board have been selected as winners of the Young Authors Award through the Ontario English Catholic Teachers Association. Ethan Matte, a student at Immaculate Conception Catholic Elementary Award won for his non-fiction submission entitled "The Art of Fishing". In the secondary panel, St. Benedict student Nikki Lemieux won for her non-fiction submission entitled "Consumer or Consumed". The final winner is Bishop Alexander Carter Catholic Secondary School student Shanleigh Brosseau for her short story submission entitled "La Couleur D'Amour". Read more...

Immaculate Student Bikes for Lung Research

10/16/2012 - Last September, Tanner Levesque decided to organize, with the help of his parents, a fundraising event in memory of his grandfather, Howard Fairburn of Webbwood, who died of lung cancer in May. Young Tanner, escorted by a police cruiser, family and friends, decided to ride his bike from his home in Val Therese to the Revenue Canada Taxation Centre in New Sudbury. Hair Cut for Cancer Event at Immaculate Conception

09/26/2012 - On Monday, September 24th, 2012 Louisa Bianchin, principal of Immaculate Conception Catholic Elementary School kicked off the Student of the Month assembly with something special. Grade four student, Dennica Hallett, had her hair cut in front of the whole school in order to donate it to make wigs for people who have lost their hair as a result of cancer treatments. Brenda Morrow, Dennica’s aunt was the hair stylist on hand who prepared and cut her hair for donation.  Read more...


Immaculate Students Continue to Inspire Change

04/18/2012 - Several months ago, a group of three students in teacher Chantal Rancourt’s grade 5/6 class were inspired to make a difference in the world. All on their own, these grade 6 Immaculate Conception Catholic Elementary students - Abigail Morgan, Sydney Hall and Alexa Connors -decided that they wanted to start fundraising for the Ryan’s Well Foundation, which helps buy and build wells in countries where there is little access to clean water. In December they launched their own school fundraiser with the goal of raising $2000 to contribute to this foundation.  Read more...

Partners Sign Community Threat Assessment Protocol

04/04/2012 - Representatives of the Greater Sudbury Police Service, area school boards and local agencies signed a Community Threat Assessment Protocol on March 27, 2012, pledging to work together to ensure schools remain safe for students and staff. The Community Threat Assessment Protocol is a collaborative response to student behaviour that may pose a risk to other students, staff and members of the community. Under the initiative, school boards, police and community partners will share information, advice and support. Plans will be developed to minimize risk.  Read more...


Franco-Fun Day at Immaculate Conception

03/26/2012 - On Tuesday, March 20th, 2012 Immaculate Conception School held its second Franco-Fun Day celebrating French language and culture. In the morning, students, dressed in green and white clothes, laughed and cheered as they closely watched the Amazing Rene perform his magic tricks. A "Snakesational" Visit at Immaculate

10/07/2011 - On Thursday, September 29th, Immaculate Conception students learned about “Reptiles at Risk” from the Reptiles at Risk: On the Road team which is funded by the Ministry of Natural Resources. Reptiles at Risk is an outreach education program which is designed to spread the important message of reptile conservation in areas where these reptiles are actually found. Grade 5 Immaculate Conception Student Inspires with a Bike Ride

09/19/2011 - On Saturday, September 17th, Tanner Levesque, a student at Immaculate Conception Elementary School decided to make a difference with a bike ride. This Grade 5 student planned a bike ride beginning at Demarais St. in Val Therese, and ending at the Taxation Centre in Sudbury – a distance of approximately 15 kilometres, to support the Sudbury Cancer Society. This bike adventure was inspired by the passing of his grandfather earlier in the year to cancer, and was something that Levesque felt was important. Read more...

06/06/2011 - On Wednesday, May 25, 2011- Immaculate Conception School held its first Drug Awareness Community Partnerships Night. James Bolan, Substance Abuse Counsellor, Brenda Stankiewicz, Public Health Nurse and Constable Julie Midena shared valuable information with parents and community partners about the different types of street drugs that are out in our community. James Bolan shared stories and information which captivated everyone sitting in the audience. A Journey Through Time at Immaculate

05/05/2011 - As part of their Catholic Education Week activities, students at Immaculate Conception Catholic Elementary School have been working tirelessly for the past few months to prepare for their Journey Through Time event on May 4, 2011. The school’s gym was filled to capacity with students, staff, parents and a variety of family members who wanted to experience a “journey through time” and visit various different eras in our history. 03/27/2011 - On Thursday, March 24, staff from both the Sudbury Catholic District School Board and the Rainbow District School Board were given the opportunity to attend a workshop with Chris D’Souza on Building Inclusive Schools and Communities. "Chewing Gum" for Haiti at Immaculate Conception

01/27/2010 - In an effort to raise money for our friends in Haiti, many schools from the Sudbury Catholic District School Board have been doing some fundraising. Immaculate Conception, Topper's Pizza Team Up for "Feed Your Mind" Reading Program

06/26/2006 - The students at Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Val Caron have been participating in the Topper's Pizza, Feed Your Mind program this school year. The program encourages young people to set and achieve specific reading goals.
